Mozambique has a predominantly tropical climate. There are two main seasons: the hot and rainy season runs from November to March, and the cooler, dry season runs from April to October. The dry season is generally considered the most comfortable time for business travel. Be aware that coastal areas can be subject to cyclones during the wet season.
The official currency is the Mozambican Metical (MZN). While the Metical is the official currency, the South African Rand (ZAR) and US Dollar (USD) are often accepted for major business transactions, especially in hotels and the tourism sector in the south. Tipping is customary in restaurants, generally around 10% of the bill. It is also common to tip hotel staff.
The official language is Portuguese which is the language of government, commerce, and media. English is increasingly taught in secondary schools and is widely understood in the major cities and in areas that see significant business or tourism from South Africa and the UK. However, for outside the major hubs, some Portuguese knowledge is beneficial.
Mozambique operates on a single time zone: Central Africa Time (CAT) which is UTC+2. Mozambique does not observe Daylight Saving Time.
