Botswana has two main seasons: the dry winter (May – October) and the Wet Summer (November - March).
In the winter, days are warm and sunny with temperatures reaching up to 25 °C, but nights are very cold and can drop close to freezing.
In the summer, the weather is hot and humid, with highs reaching up to 34 °C. However, this is the season for heavy thundershowers, so check the weather in the region before travelling.
The official currency is the Botswana Pula (BWP). Major credit cards such as Visa and MasterCard are accepted in most urban centres, hotels, and retailers. It is advisable to carry cash for smaller shops and remote areas.
English is the official language for all government, business, and formal written communication. Most urban residents and professionals have a working knowledge of English. Setswana is the national language and is spoken by the vast majority of the population. Learning a few basic Setswana phrases (like "Dumela" - hello) is a sign of respect and highly appreciated in business and social settings.
Botswana observes Central Africa Time (CAT) throughout the year and does not use Daylight Saving Time.
