When travelling to a new destination, it’s helpful to research prior to travelling. Here’s all the essential information to know before your business stay to Montenegro.
Montenegro has two main climate zones: Coastal (Mediterranean) areas are characterised by long, dry, hot summers (reaching up to 30°c and above) and short, mild, wet winters. Inland (Continental/Alpine) areas such as the capital, Podgorica, can be one of Europe's wettest cities, with very hot summers and colder winters. Mountainous regions experience cold, snowy winters. Travelers should always pack layers. Coastal areas require light clothing in summer, but mountain excursions demand warmer gear.
The official currency is the Euro (€). Although Montenegro is not an official EU member, the Euro is the sole currency in circulation. Major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard) are widely accepted in cities and coastal resorts. Tipping of 5% to 10% is customary for good service in restaurants.
Montenegrin is the official language. English is generally spoken in the tourism and along the coast (e.g., Tivat, Kotor, Budva) and in Podgorica. However, English usage is less common in the Northern and more remote inland areas. Learning a few basic phrases in Montenegrin or relying on translation apps is highly recommended outside major cities.
Montenegro is in the Central European Time Zone (CET), which is GMT +1. Like most of Europe, it observes Daylight Saving Time (DST), switching to GMT +2 during the summer months.
