Case study: How we helped a global professional services firm streamline, automate and unlock value from their accommodation programme

Maximising Value from Long-Standing Partnerships

Our relationship with this client began in 2013, managing their transient business travel accommodation needs for stays of five nights or more. In 2018, the client entrusted us with their new hire programme to support inbound relocations across ten UK locations, including London, Birmingham, Bristol, and Edinburgh.

At the time, they faced significant challenges with their existing operator, including unmet service expectations and inefficiencies in their accommodation process.

They partnered with SilverDoor to create a solution that would:

The partnership has since evolved into a comprehensive accommodation solution, expanding to additional UK cities and four new locations in Ireland. What began as a UK-focused account is now a global collaboration supported by our international teams.

Challenges and how we overcame them together

Delivering cost certainty and demonstrable value in unpredictable markets

A key consideration for this client has always  been cost certainty: prioritising value while retaining accommodation standards. They have strict rate caps and require accommodation close to their city centre offices. We leverage our buying power and operator relationships in their key locations so we can consistently negotiate rates well below their caps – even when their rate caps have not risen to match inflation.

Their rate cap for London was £219. The current average rates we deliver for them are £140 for a studio apartment, £158 for a one-bedroom apartment, and £163 for a two-bedroom apartment. In 2023 so far, we’ve been able to achieve a 28.6% saving against, the market rate for this client; a total saving of £384,000.

Confidence in a bespoke online solution with world-class data security

A critical priority of this client was that we could provide an online tool that was completely secure, with world-class information security and data protection that they could trust entirely.

This company is one of the largest professional services firms in the world and handles large quantities of confidential personal and financial information. Its suppliers must therefore comply with an extremely robust system of data security. The investment we make in the security of our systems has resulted in SilverDoor Connect successfully passing this client’s Infosecurity procedure.

Outcomes and Successes

An aggregated portfolio with the ability to browse, compare and book instantly

Clients are increasingly demanding online booking capability and live rates to improve programme efficiency and seamlessly slot corporate housing into their existing systems. Our portfolio aggregates content from over 2,000 operators, with rate caps and property preferences inputted directly. This client has complete control and visibility of programme performance with instant analytics and reporting capabilities and our global client teams are always on hand for further support.

Empowering their people to make informed booking choices and help them meet sustainability targets

This client has ambitious targets to reduce their carbon emissions. To help them meet these targets, we adapted our quotes and CMS to support their desire to understand the emissions associated with the apartments they book and the sustainable performance of their apartment choices.

Clients can now search, filter and set preferences to favour properties that meet their needs in these areas – be these solar panels or no single-use plastics. We can already calculate an industry average for a stay in each apartment type by location and we are also beginning to gather data from operators for exact energy and water consumption fields to provide building-specific data so that clients can report on their actual calculated emissions for stays in our properties, allowing them to benchmark and set reduction targets.
