Kilmarnock is a town in East Ayrshire, Scotland that overlooks the River Irvine. It has a population of over 46,000 and is 15th most densely populated place in Scotland. The name Kilmarnock is an amalgamation of the words of ‘cill’, meaning ‘cell’, and ‘Mernoc’ – with reference to the disciple, Saint Marnock. Saint Marnock is said to have established a church in the town as early as the 7th century. New plans for the Kilmarnock were reportedly laid in the 17th century, and paved the way for future developments including business travel to the town.

By the time of the Industrial Revolution, Kilmarnock began to expand considerably. New streets were introduced, and the town became known for its manufacturing of Scottish bonnets.
