All you need to know about Chalon-sur-Saone

Chalon-sur-Saône falls within the region of Burgundy in eastern France. The main language spoken is French and the population is just over 48,000. Chalon-sur-Saône is positioned on the River Saone, with the best way to travel along the river being the bateau-mouche, La Delta, which offers trips and dinner cruises.

Chalon is known for its wine industry and is home to vineyards such as Maison des Vins de la Côte Chalonnaise, which are available for visits throughout the year to sample their fine wines. Other notable sights include St. Vincent's Cathedral, with the cathedral square containing shops, cafes and a museum dedicated to Joseph Nicéphore-Niépce, who was the founder of photography.

The city is served by the Gare de Chalon-sur-Saône train station which carries lines to ParisLyonDijon and many other regions. The centre of Chalon-sur-Saône operates a free bus service and a bike-sharing scheme called Réflex. The nearest airport is Lyon, which is 80 miles away and offers flights to many European destinations, including LondonBrussels and Lisbon.
