Tried & Tested : Serviced Apartments in Edinburgh
25th April 2023

Edinburgh has always been on my bucket list to visit. I jumped at the opportunity to meet with just a few of our valued serviced apartment property partners in this city to view their accommodation. Discover my findings below

ALTIDO ¦ 126 Cannongate

As one of our newest property partners within our UK partner network, ALTIDO has serviced apartments throughout Edinburgh as well as London Battersea and Birmingham. Whilst in Edinburgh I was lucky enough to stay overnight in the “Engineering” studio at their Cannongate property.

126 Cannongate is made up of three studio apartments, seven 2-bedroom apartments and a 3-bedroom apartment, each with their individual names linking them to the city’s history. This building is located at the very start of the Royal Mile and is a short 10-minute walk from Edinburgh Waverly Station and the centre of Edinburgh.

Although I stayed in a studio, the apartment was very spacious, open, and bright. They have very cleverly created a space-saving kitchenette, complete with a dishwasher, electric hob, microwave and all the standard crockery and utensils you would need at home. This bespoke design has been implemented throughout their portfolio and their modern décor gives a clean and minimalistic feel.

These serviced apartments would be perfect for those visiting Edinburgh for a personal stay to make the most of the sights and history of the city or for those on a short-term business trip. A perk of this property that I certainly made the most of, is the small independent coffee shop just next door that will get you set up for the day!

The other Edinburgh serviced apartments I viewed with ALTIDO were close to the main shopping hub of the city at George Street, Castle Street and Queen Street. These apartments offer a home away from home feel and are within some stunning period townhouses. These serviced apartments would be perfect for VIP or corporate travellers looking to be in a quieter area of the city or families travelling to the area.

Mansley Serviced Apartments ¦ Braid Apartments

The Braid Apartments by Mansley are made up of 19 serviced apartments consisting of studios, 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom apartments, and are nestled just off Hanover Street, Edinburgh’s vibrant shopping and dining, along the quieter Thistle Street. Close to the Queen Street Gardens and St Andrew’s Square, the Braid Apartments offer clean, quiet, and bright apartment options whilst in the heart of the city.

Each of these Edinburgh apartments has been meticulously designed to ensure the best use of the space, as each apartment has its unique shape depending on where it is in the building. The apartments have a subtle elegance to their design that offers a comfortability when entering and is perfect for long or short stays. Even their studios feel more like one-bedroom apartments due to their attention to detail in the design; there is a partition wall separating the living area from the bedroom area and the size of the apartments in general feels a lot larger than your typical studio.

One thing that particularly stands out to me with Mansley is their dedication to sustainability – something that is becoming increasingly important to the general population as well as our client base. Their focus on this even boils down to the smaller details within the apartment itself such as their plan to source more sustainable coffee and tea options, steering away from the traditional single-use, freeze-dried sachets of coffee and typical milk cartons – while I was there, I had a coffee with their duty manager, and the milk was delivered to us in a glass bottle.

As well as the Braid Apartments, Mansley’s portfolio extends to include another property in the old town of Edinburgh, London, Cheltenham, and Inverness.

Edinburgh is truly a city of two halves and each of these serviced apartments would suit any traveller whether they are corporate business travellers, guests looking to relocate to Edinburgh, or those who are taking in the sights on a city break trip.

Premier Suites’ Fountain Court

My time in Edinburgh was a great opportunity to take in some of the upcoming serviced apartments we are excited to see open this year. One of these is Premier Suites’ Fountain Court. A hard hat tour of the property with the general manager of Fountain Court allowed me to see the potential that this development has. With a mixture of apartment types and even some fully accessible serviced apartments in the pipeline for development, the building has something for everyone. An open co-working space offers our corporate travellers to Edinburgh even more freedom and flexibility to work from where they feel comfortable while their on-site car park (which will be completed with the installation of electric charging points) offers commuters and leisure guests the freedom to explore and know that their vehicle is secure.

After working with Premier Suites for a long time, it is wonderful to see them continue to expand into more cities.

Only a 10-minute walk from Haymarket station, Fountain Court is located within Edinburgh’s West End and is close to several restaurants and bars for those travelling on a leisure basis. There is also the independent Fountain Café just next door where I stopped for a homemade lunch and enjoyed a lovely chat with the ladies that own the café. They certainly make you feel at home!
