Buffalo is a city in the state of New York, with a population of more than 255,000. It lies on Lake Erie and is located roughly 16 miles from the Niagara Falls. The city has a humid continental climate, with warm summers and cold winters. The main language spoken is English and the predominant currency used is the US Dollar. Buffalo shares a sister status with more than 18 cities including Siena, Kanazawa and Lille. As a gateway for commerce, Buffalo remains popular with business travellers and offers a generous array of serviced apartments and corporate housing.

Buffalo was a site for exploration by the French who occupied the area in the 17th century. The Dutch were next to follow and invested heavily in the area in the late 18th century. Under the ownership various Dutch Investors, Buffalo expanded with the introduction of new villages and a new grid plan, spearheaded by American surveyor and city planner Joseph Ellicott. These various developments had a positive impact on trading to and from Buffalo and helped grow the city’s reputation as a business travel destination. In the mid-1800s, Buffalo experienced a significant boom in its population led by the arrival of new settlers to the town including business travellers. Many came to work on the city’s railroads, whilst others were involved in the construction of buildings like the Macedonia Baptist Church. It was during this time that Buffalo’s port began to grow and attract increased passenger and commercial traffic. This growth was particularly fuelled by shipment of grain to and from the port. In the years that followed, Buffalo became better connected as a city and continued to experience a population surge.

At the turn of the 20th century, Buffalo received the nickname City of Light, on account of its use of electric lighting – which had a knock-on effect on its mills and helped to pave the way for an automobile revolution. By the 1950s Buffalo was major manufacturing centre and one of America’s most densely populated cities, home to such companies as Lackawanna Steel and Republic Steel. These companies employed thousands, many of whom were business travel professionals, and created the perfect conditions in which corporate housing was able to thrive.
