Pictured Rocks is accessible all year and is a true four-season recreation destination, including hiking, kayaking, sightseeing, drive-in camping, winter ice climbing, ice fishing, cross-country skiing, and more. While on a boat trip or a kayak-guided tour of the lake, you may view an 1874 lighthouse in addition to other historic sites.

Michigan’s Adventure and WildWater Adventure – Muskegon is home to Michigan's largest amusement park and waterpark. The waterpark has something for everyone with 60 rides, slides, attractions, wave pools, body slides, and speed slides. Detroit Institute of Arts – With over 65,000 pieces, the DIA links people to art through programmes, services, and a globally varied collection that ranks among the top six in the country. Look through their schedule to discover what exhibitions are on at the time of your visit. Among the many exhibitions they've had are Van Gogh in America, Van Gogh's Artistic Roots, Rethinking Monuments, and the 85th Annual Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) Student Exhibition.

Transport in Michigan

As a result of Michigan’s land being 50 percent forest land, and being bordered by Canada, it can be very hard to get around the state. So here is what you need to know about transportation while staying in serviced accommodation in Michigan:

International crossings – Michigan shares 9 international road crossings with Ontario, Canada. The Ambassador Bridge, which connects Detroit to Windsor, Ontario, is the busiest international border crossing. This bridge has been serving the United States and Canada for over nine decades, with over 40,000 commuters, tourists, and truck drivers crossing the border each day, transporting $323 million in merchandise. Additionally, it is the world's largest international suspension bridge. A few more well-known crossings are the Blue Water Bridge, Windsor Detroit Tunnel, and St. Clair River Railway Tunnel.

Airports – There are 15 airports in Michigan that offer commercial flights, and the top five are the Gerald R. Ford International Airport (GRR), the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW), the Flint Bishop International Airport (FNT), the Cherry Capital Airport (TVC), and the Lansing Capital City Airport (LAN). The principal airport serving the city and the largest airport in Michigan is the Detroit Metro Airport.

Railroads – The Canadian National Railway, the Canadian Pacific Railway, CSX Transportation, and the Norfolk Southern Railway service the state. Several hundred short line railroads supplement these trains.

Things to know when visiting Michigan

Climate – Despite having two different districts within the state, Michigan is one of the coldest places in the country and has a continental climate. Michigan has significant seasonal temperature variations, with warm, humid summers and freezing winters. The northern Lower Peninsula and the entire Upper Peninsula have a harsher climate, with pleasant but shorter summers and cold to very frigid winters that last longer. Slangs and Phrases – You should familiarise yourself with some of the lingo used in Michigan before travelling there. Starting with "Ope," which is what people in Michigan say instead of "oops." Some call it soda, some call it coke, but in Michigan, carbonated beverages are referred to as "Pop." Residents of the Lower Peninsula are referred to as "Trolls," whereas those who reside in the UP are referred to as "Yoppers." On the other hand, the "UP" is an abbreviation for Upper Peninsula.  Last but not least, there's the well-known "Michigan Left." In Michigan, you must do U-turns through a specific lane at intersections where you cannot turn left, and then turn right.

Sports – Sports, both professional and college, are extremely popular in Michigan and American football is the most popular sport in the state. The state's college-level teams are those of the University of Michigan and Michigan State University while the Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers are the state's professional teams.
