Chonburi is a city in Thailand. Part of the Mueang Chonburi
District, it lies 62 miles away from Bangkok, and close to the Gulf of
Thailand. The name “Chonburi” means “city of water” in Thai, with reference to
the fact that the city is located on a coast.
Together with various other local areas, Chonburi forms part
of a conurbation called the Pattaya Chonburi Metropolitan Area. The city has a tropical
climate, with dry winters and warm summers.
Chonburi is home to a number of beaches which serve as
popular tourist attractions. Other famous sites include Sriracha Tiger Zoo,
Amata Castle, and the temple Wat Yai Intraram. For shopping, head to the Ang
Sila Old Market, where you’ll be able to pick up some fabulous seafood.
Sukhumvit Road is the main street that runs through
Chonburi, and takes you all the way to from Bangkok to Cambodia. You can also
travel around Chonburi by train, by boarding a train at Chon Buri railway
station, located in the city’s Ban Suan Sub-district.
