All you need to know about Boracay

Boracay is a tiny island in the Philippines. It’s situated roughly 200 miles south of Manila, and has a population of more than 28,000. It’s highly regarded for its beaches and also boasts an impressive nightlife scene. In previous rankings, it’s been named one of the greatest destinations for relaxation.

The name Boracay is thought to derive from the local word ‘Borac’, meaning white cotton, with reference to the colour and texture of the island’s sand.

Once upon a time, Boracay was a large agricultural community, known for its production of fishing and copra - a dried meat derived from coconut. Since the 1970s, however, it’s grown to be a popular tourist hotspot, attracting people from all over the world with beautiful its topography. Sites worth visiting include Ariel’s Point, White Beach and the Motag Living Museum.

The best way to get around Boracay is by either by pedicab or on foot. You can also explore the island using mountain bike or motorbike.
