Breda is a city in the Netherlands. It lies to the south of
the country and was once of great political and military significance. It has a
population of more than 183,000, and is divided into seven city sectors.
Breda’s economic activities were once largely industrial,
and centred on the food and drink industry. Nowadays, the city has service-orientated
economy focused on trade, logistics and business. Many multinational companies
are based there including General Electric and General Motors.
There are lots of things to see and do in Breda, from a walk
through its main square to a visit to Grote Markt. Famous sights include the
Castle of Breda and Begijnhof Museum. Popular green spaces worth seeing are
Stadspark and Willem Merkxtuin.
At the city’s main shopping centre, De Barones, you can pick
up everything from clothes to shoes. Other shopping areas include t’Sas and Het
Ginneken.
Breda has two train stations - both of which connect to
areas like South Holland and Tilburg. Its main motorway, the A16, runs through
Breda and on to Rotterdam and Antwerp. It’s also served by the A27 motorway.
