Bologna is the largest city in Italy’s Emilia Romagna
region. It has a population of 366,133 and remains an important urban hub. It’s
also a major financial, industrial, agriculture and transport centre, made up
of food companies, electronic business and round-the-clock trade fairs.
It’s home to beautiful churches and porticoes like the
Basilica di San Petronio and the Basilica di San Stefano. Its many porticoes –
Portico di San Luca being the longest- run on for 25 miles, are vast in height,
and provide a cosy shelter on hot or rainy days.
Bologna’s main airport, Guglielmo Marconi, is one of Italy’s
busiest, and is served by most well-known airlines. Another popular commuting
hub is Bologna Centrale railway station, which operates a regular service to
places like Venice, Naples and Rome.
The city offers a number of museums of galleries like the Palazzo Comunale and Pinacoteca. Immerse yourself in all things Bologna by doing a food tour of the local cheese factory, or enjoy the city on foot with a visit to hotspots like the Archiginnasio of Bologna. For shopping, head to Mercato di Mezzo or Galleria 49.
