Vantaa is a city in Finland. Part of the Finnish Capital
region, it lies to the south of the country and has a population of more than
221,000. It’s bordered by Helsinki, Finland’s capital, and located close to the
areas Espoo, Nurmijarvi, Kerava and Tuusula and Sipoo. It’s a bilingual city,
with most people speaking either Finnish or Swedish.
Vantaa has a rich history stretching back to the Stone Age.
Its main industries are architectural engineering, food, and machine, and most
people working in the city are employed by the private sector. Companies
headquartered there include Finnair, Finavia and Veikkaus Oy.
Vantaa is the main transportation base for Helsinki’s metropolitan
area, and has a number of highways and freeways. Several railway lines also
pass through Vantaa, connecting a total of 14 stations in the city.
Finland’s largest airport, Helsinki Airport, is located in
Vantaa, and attracts considerable passenger traffic.
