northeast Jiangsu region of China. The city borders Lianyungang, Huai’an,
Yangzhou, Taizhou and Nantong. Yancheng is located upon the Yellow Sea and is
nicknamed ‘Salt City’ after the surrounding salt harvesting fields. Salt
extraction first began in Yancheng as early as 119 BC during the Western Han Dynasty.
The city has a population of 7.2 million and a strong agricultural
industry.
