Tianjin is on the Hai He River southeast of Beijing, the Tianjin ports are located some distance away in the Bohai Gulf on the East China Sea. Tianjin is known for it’s hot, humid summers caused by the monsoon and cold, dry winters caused by the Siberian anticyclone.

Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA) has been a free market zone since late 1984 and currently has more foreign businesses than the city of Shanghai. The TEDA is located near to the seaport and is the home of business buildings, residential spaces, and an extensive transportation network. Tianjin’s football team is also located within the development area. While part of Tianjin, TEDA is a segregated area and gives the feeling of being its own city as it is about 40 minutes from downtown Tianjin. The Binhai Mass Transit was introduced in 2004 improving the journey time between Tianjin and TEDA a great deal.
