All you need to know about Manama

Manama is the capital of Bahrain. A major trading hub, it’s famous for its oil production and has a thriving central business district. The city has a population of roughly 1.5 million and is celebrated for its many shopping malls and skyscrapers.

Famous attractions include the Bahrain National Museum, Al Fateh Grand Mosque and Qalat al Bahrain ruins. It has its idyllic spots like Al Dar Island and Reef Island, and its historic areas such as the Royal Tombs and Diraz Temple.

Its economy is split between oil, financial services, shipbuilding and tourisms. Some of its most important exports include aluminium and petroleum. 

Manama is well served by roads, and its vehicle population is on the increase. To the west of the city lies a major highway which connects Manama to the town and village port, Budaiya, and, to the east a causeway linking Manama and Muharraq.

The city has a comprehensive bus service, which covers various routes to and from the the city. Bahrain International Airport, Manama’s main airport, is located on Muharraq Island, just four miles from Manama’s central business district.

Its economy is divided between petroleum, financial services, shipbuilding and tourism. Some of its most important exports include textiles, tobacco, livestock and fuel.
