This statement, applicable to all SilverDoor offices worldwide, outlines our environmental strategy and our commitment to delivering it responsibly.
As the largest booker of corporate extended stay apartments, we have the profile, resources, and influence to drive change, and we acknowledge our responsibility to lead by example.
We are committed to minimising our environmental impact and supporting initiatives that advance global sustainability.
SilverDoor supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our journey aligns with these global principles, focusing on tangible, measurable and achievable changes across our own operations, and those of our business partners.
We are committed to full compliance with all applicable environmental laws and regulations. Where appropriate, we strive to exceed these requirements by implementing and delivering initiatives and measures which drive continuous improvement in our own sustainability performance, whilst also supporting our business partners in their own steps towards building a more sustainable future.
As we work to continuously enhance our environmental practices, we are committed to allocating the necessary resources to achieve this goal.
Our environmental strategy focuses on reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and waste across our value chain, minimising our operational impact on biodiversity and ecosystems, raising awareness among employees, partners, and industry stakeholders about the environmental footprint of the serviced apartment sector and its potential to drive positive change in business travel.
The path to sustainability is complex and challenging for any organisation. Carbon accounting, the foundation behind environmental performance data, remains an evolving science often relying upon estimates, averages, interpretations, as well as scenarios and hypothesis which are yet to be proven.
SilverDoor is guided by the principle of only making promises we are confident we can fulfil.
Currently, our energy supply depends on national grids, which are themselves facing challenges in achieving net zero goals. Once these grids can establish a reliable path to net zero energy, we will ourselves be able to determine our own pathway towards becoming net zero in our operations.
Whilst we are committed in principle to meeting net zero by 2050, we at present cannot guarantee this date and as such have instead opted to set a near term science-based target that we believe to be both realistic and achievable by 2030. This approach highlights our commitment to taking positive steps towards net zero, a commitment to eventually reaching net zero and a commitment to our principles of delivering on the promises we make.
We firmly believe this approach is appropriate as it accounts for the size of our business, and that it is impractical to make commitments - whether financial, growth-related, or environmental - beyond a 10-years horizon. Instead, we focus on setting near-term targets that keep us accountable and aligned with our long-term objectives and ambitions.
